Cattle herder missing near Dayton
DAYTON, Texas (AP) — Boats have been used in the search for a livestock herder who disappeared in Liberty County while moving cattle near the rain-swollen Trinity River.
Searchers resumed their efforts Monday.
Dayton police say three men were herding cattle Sunday afternoon to get the livestock to higher ground, as water rose coming off the Trinity River.
Police Chief Pete Douzat says 45-year-old Gene Roberts was last seen riding his horse into a wooded area. His horse was later discovered with the reins tangled in some tree branches.
