Fire destroys mobile home
PALESTINE — A Monday morning fire destroyed a mobile home north of Palestine, according to local authorities.
Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor said his agency was dispatched to a mobile home fire in the 100 block of Private Road 6022, north of Palestine, at 8:02 a.m. Monday.
Upon his arrival, Anderson County sheriff’s deputy Charles Conner noted that smoke was emerging from the center of the trailer, according to the sheriff.
The Montalba and Tennessee Colony volunteer fire departments responded to the blaze, but were unable to salvage the structure.
“The trailer was a total loss,” Taylor said. “It looks like it started in the center of the house, either in the kitchen or living room area. We’re not sure what started the fire.”
The 14 foot-by-70 foot trailer was valued at $8,000, according to Taylor.
Reserve sheriff’s deputy Bill Yearout, a retired city fire marshal in the Greater Houston area, will visit the scene and investigate the blaze, Taylor said.
The sheriff said the trailer’s 46-year-old resident had left his residence approximately 20 minutes prior to the fire being reported.
Taylor said the trailer’s resident did have renter’s insurance.
The local chapter of the American Red Cross has been contacted, the sheriff added.
