PALESTINE —
Starting in March, the East Texas Food Bank in Tyler will provide a truckload of fresh fruits and vegetables monthly to Anderson County residents in need.
The First Resource Center and the Salvation Army Unit of Anderson County will distribute the groceries starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7 at First Resource Center, located at 801 N. Sycamore St. in the old First Baptist Church children’s education building.
“This is open to anyone who lives in Anderson County. There won’t be any screening. People just need to bring their own bags or boxes for the produce,” First Resource Center Director Harold Pettit said Tuesday. “We will be distributing the groceries until nothing is left, first-come, first-serve. The only question they will have to answer is how many people there is in their family.”
Pettit encouraged those who plan to participate to line up before the 10 a.m. start on March 7. Volunteers will help distribute the fruits and vegetables.
“The East Texas Food Bank is going to do this monthly here — we are just the vehicle they are using to distribute the produce,” Pettit said. “It’s outstanding that God brought along this benefit here to Anderson County. We look for this to be a really big event and we think it will be good for our community.”
The distribution will be held the first week of every month, though the day of the week may change in future months.
