The Palestine Library Memorial Board, through The Gregg Foundation, will host a piano and organ concert Saturday featuring Italian music luminaries Francesco Attesti and Matteo Galli.
The free concert will be held at 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, located at 422 S. Magnolia St. in Palestine.
Attesti, who performed at the 2012 concert in Palestine, is an Italian pianist of international acclaim. Among his generation of musicians, he is considered one of the finest interpreters of the Romantic and early Twentieth Century Repertoire.
“His performance in Palestine brought rave reviews and he is welcomed back for this command performance,” a news release said.
This year’s concert also includes the highly acclaimed organist, Matteo Galli, who is chief organist at the St. Maria presso St. Satiro Basilica in Milan.
In addition to his activity as a musician he is also concerned with organizing festivals and he is well known for his participation in the most important conservatories and schools of music in Italy and beyond.

Dogwood Trails parade applications available
The Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for the 75th annual Dogwood Trails Festival Parade, set to take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 16 in downtown Palestine.
The theme of the 2013 festival is “Diamonds & Dogwoods: A Dynamic Duo,” with parade participants asked to pick a famous duo like Batman and Robin, Anthony and Cleopatra, etc. Entries will be judged on theme, continuity, originality and enthusiasm.
The deadline for parade entries is 4 p.m. on Monday, March 11. Those not registered by that time may participate, but will not be judged or qualify for awards.
The parade begins at 10 a.m. at the courthouse square, will continue down Crawford Street, turn left onto Sycamore Street, right onto Main Street, right onto Tennessee Street and tight onto Lacy Street. Judging will be done during the parade from the Chamber of Commerce building at Main and Queen Streets.
Prizes include a $300 cash prize for “Best Overall Float” and second- and third-place trophies; and first-, second- and third-place trophies in the categories of individual, business and organization.

Woman with local ties makes debut
Caroline Calloway Leffert made her debut during the Dallas Symphony Orchestra League Debutante Ball on Feb. 2 at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
Caroline is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Jonathan D. Leffert of Dallas and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth D. Calloway of Palestine and Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Leffert of Sarasota, Fla.
Caroline is a graduate of Greenhill School in Dallas and currently attends Washington University in St. Louis, where she has remained on the Dean’s List all semesters. She is pursuing a degree in International Relations with a concentration on Global Culture Studies. She also has a double minor in French and Drama, studied in France last summer and will continue her education there for the fall 2013 semester.
Caroline is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity. She was selected to serve as Internal Operations Chair on the St. Louis Area Dance Marathon Executive Board, which raises money for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
She also performed in a leading role with the oldest theater group on campus, Thyrsus.

According to Sheriff Greg Taylor, while on patrol in the early morning hours on Saturday, deputy Johnny Gorden saw a suspicious vehicle sitting on the side of U.S. 287 between Palestine and Elkhart. -
