PALESTINE —
Two area residents remain in the Anderson County Jail Tuesday after an early morning traffic stop led to the arrest of the pair on drug-related charges.
According to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, Deputy Johnny Gorden was patrolling an area near Lake Palestine when he made a traffic stop on a maroon 2004 Ford Pickup for a defective taillight.
The stop occurred at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday at the corner of CR 309 and FM 1892.
“Neither the driver or the passenger had proper ID and were acting nervous,” the sheriff said, “so Gorden asked the pair to step out of the vehicle and got permission to search it.”
In the console area, Gorden found 1.9 grams of methamphetamine in a small baggie and in the woman’s purse, found a marijuana pipe with residue inside, according to the sheriff.
The driver, Kayla Lasha Fernandez, 29, of Jacksonville was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG1, 1-4 grams, with $35,000 bond; and a $300 fine for drug paraphernalia, Taylor said.
The passenger Robert David Fowler, 25, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance PG1, 1-4 grams, with $35,000 bond and $300 in traffic fines, the sheriff said.
Fowler’s last driver’s license, from Ohio, had been suspended, the sheriff added.
Bond on the pair was set by Justice of the Peace Carl Davis.
