County, cities receive December sales tax payments

PALESTINE — Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said recently that state sales tax revenue in November was $2.34 billion, up 13.1 percent compared to November 2011.

“Gains across major sectors boosted state sales tax revenue,” Combs said. “Collections were strong in sectors such as retail trade, manufacturing, oil and natural gas, construction and telecommunications.”

Combs sent December local sales tax allocations totaling $552 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 15.5 percent compared to December 2011.

Texas cities received $360.8 million in November 2012 allocations — up 14.2 percent compared to the same month last year and up 8.2 percent this year.

All of Anderson County’s three municipalities — Palestine, Frankston and Elkhart — saw decreases in the December 2012 payment over the 2011 payment, with drops of 1.57 percent and 12.33 percent and 4.58, respectively.

Palestine’s payment of $447,151 dropped $7,142 compared to their 2011 December payment. The city’s payments to-date for 2012 totals 5,971,781 — a slight drop of $58,936 (.97 percent) compared to last year’s payment to-date of 6,030,717.

Frankston’s December payment totaled $13,630 — $1,918 less than last year’s November payment. Their 2012 payments to-date increased, though — from $189,682 at this time in 2011 to $191,950 so far this year.

The City of Elkhart’s December payment dropped to $7,613 — down $366 compared to last December’s $7,979 payment. Their payments to-date increased 5.64 percent — from $106,220 in 2011 to $112,215 so far this year.

Texas’ more than 250 counties saw December allocations of $37.2 million — an 18.9 percent increase compared to December 2011 and a 14.7 percent increase compared to year-to-date figures in 2011.

Anderson County’s payment increased as well, with a 4.08 percent increase (or $7,769) in its December 2012 allocation payment of $198,162 compared to the December 2011 payment of $190,393.

The county’s 2012 year-to-date payment of $2,680,464 rose 20.03 percent (or $447,450) compared to the December 2011 payments to-date of $2,233,014.

The sales tax figures represent October sales reported by monthly tax filers.
