PALESTINE —
Anderson County commissioners presented the County Clerk’s office with a hard-to-attain award during their regular meeting on Friday.
County Clerk Wanda Burke told commissioners last month that her office had been notified of its receipt of the Bureau of Vital Statistics Five Star Award, which is bestowed annually to hospitals, local registrars and others involved in keeping public records.
“I am very proud of my office’s employees,” County Clerk Wanda Burke told commissioners. “We have been working toward this for two or three years. I am just really excited about this award.”
According to information from the Vital Statistics Unit, a subgroup of the Texas Department of State Health Services, the local registrar (or clerk) must meet several criteria in the areas of timeliness, managing registration, improvement, training and birth registration to receive the award.
Also on Friday, commissioners:
• APPROVED reports from county officials, budget amendments and bills.
• APPROVED allowing a local food truck business to station their truck in the Anderson County Courthouse Annex parking lot at various times.
• APPROVED land use agreements with Joe Ellis and Don Blackter for Precinct 3.
• APPROVED a four-year electric rate contract with Gexa Energy of Houston. The new contract will save the county approximately $5,940 per month — over $250,000 in total savings — for electrical usage.
• APPROVED the 2013 Worker Compensation Insurance Renewal.
• APPROVED the purchase of a computer and a data transmission box for DPS to be purchase from the General Fund.
