PALESTINE —
Long Lake Baptist Church and Tennessee Colony Church are joining efforts to host a community-wide “Seek His Face” Prayer Rally Sunday.
“The focus of the rally is to pray for our country and the upcoming presidential election, Tennessee Colony Church pastor Rev. John Wisener said. “It is a kick-off to 40 days for prayer beginning on Sept. 28 through Nov. 6.
“So many folks do not know what is at stake and the potential freedoms we stand to lose by the choices we make in November,” he added. “This is not a political rally and no candidate will be criticized or endorsed but the issues at stake will be presented.”
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at Tennessee Colony Church, located at the three-way intersection of FM 321, FM 645 and Spur 324 in Tennessee Colony.
“We need to seek God’s face, as it says in 2nd Chronicles 7:14, ‘If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear,’” Wisener said. “The direction our country is headed in regards to the presidential election, the fact that some of our freedoms have been taken away and seeing young people who don’t know what their country’s leaders moral convictions are is really concerning.
“The choices we make in November impacts not only today but for a long time.”
The guest speaker will be the Rev. Larry Gardner of Carrollton, formerly the pastor of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Palestine. Gardner also served as a chaplain at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Beto Unit and was a former staff member with T.D. Jakes Ministries through the prison ministry.
The idea for the prayer rally came about a month ago when Wisener and Long Lake Baptist Church pastor, the Rev. Max Martin, were at the same event in Tyler.
“I was challenged that we need to get serious about praying for our country and even challenged to be in prayer for those in power, something I haven’t been doing,” Martin said. “We need to pray for our nation so that God’s hands will be on those in leadership.”
Area churches and pastors were invited to the event and flyers placed around town.
“We want this to be a community-wide event,” Martin said. “The community and church need to come together and tear down the walls.
“We don’t have to compromise on what we believe, but we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.”
The pastors feel strongly about encouraging Americans to participate in the 40 days of prayer.
“If every American at 8 p.m. every night for pray for our country, election and nation and repent for or sins, it could prove be a pivotal point for us,” Wisener said. “We need God’s refuge and strength right now. This is a rally of God’s people in God’s house on God’s day to share God’s word and to seek His face in prayer.”
Homemade ice cream will be served following the prayer rally.
