PALESTINE —
Anderson County sheriff’s authorities have obtained a warrant for the arrest of a 20-year-old Palestine man in connection with a residential burglary last week.
Joshua Brian Knapp, 20, of Palestine is wanted on the charge of burglary of a habitation stemming from a break-in last Thursday at a residence north of Palestine during which multiple firearms were reportedly stolen, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
Knapp’s warrant was signed by Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd and has a pre-set bond of $100,000, according to the sheriff.
Knapp was allegedly being pursued by multiple units representing various agencies, including the Palestine Police Department, around 10:30 p.m. Thursday when he wrecked a pickup truck on Texas 294, west of Elkhart and near the intersection of CR 130, and then fled on foot, authorities have said.
Several hours earlier on Thursday, Anderson County sheriff’s authorities believe Knapp burglarized a residence on Private Road 6421, north of Palestine, and stole multiple firearms.
One of the firearms believed to have been stolen during the burglary was recovered from the wrecked truck, according to Taylor.
Knapp is described as a white male approximately 5-5 and 120 pounds with a fair complexion, brown hair and blue eyes.
The sheriff said Knapp has a lengthy criminal history and can be “violent” at times.
“He is a menace and he needs to be caught,” Taylor said.
Brittani Britton, 17, of Athens is believed to have been in Knapp’s vehicle during the pursuit. She had yet to charged in connection with the burglary as of late Tuesday afternoon.
“Charges may be forthcoming on her,” Taylor said.
Anyone providing information leading to Knapp’s arrest may be eligible to receive a reward of up to $1,000 from Anderson County Crimestoppers.
Crimestoppers may be contacted by calling 903-729-TIPS (8477).
