Local chef to take part in culinary demonstration in Jacksonville

Palestine chef Simon Webster will give a culinary demonstration during the Taste of Jacksonville event Friday.

“I will be demonstrating how to use fresh tomatoes, onions and eggplants all in one dish with the Aubergine Cake,” Webster told the Herald-Press Monday. “It’s going to be quite a good event. Another chef will be there presenting a culinary demonstration as well.”

Webster, executive chef of Sabor a Pasion Country House & Bistro located outside of Palestine, writes a weekly column for the Herald-Press’ Saturday edition called “Cooking with Simon.”

The Aubergine Cake recipe was featured in the Aug. 18 edition of the “Cooking with Simon” column in the Herald-Press.

The Taste of Jacksonville event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Norman Activity Center, located outside of the Tomato Bowl and will feature food from more than 20 restaurants.

Chef Rick Neal, executive chef at The Challenge at Eagle’s Bluff Country Club, will give a demonstration at 5:15 p.m. Webster will be on stage at 6 p.m. for his demonstration.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children if purchased by noon Friday. At the door tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children. For ticket information, visit the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, located at 526 E. Commerce St. or call 903-586-2271 or 1-800-376-2217.
