PALESTINE —
Two benefit events are planned this weekend — one Saturday and one Sunday — to help Palestine area residents.
A fish fry will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Frankston to benefit Linda Folmar, who is fighting Stage 4 ovarian cancer. Assistance is needed for medical and personal expenses.
Her husband George Folmar is a former Frankston police chief and is now serving as church pastor in the Frankston area.
Catfish plates will be sold for $10 each and any and all donations will go directly to the Folmars. The fish fry will be held at the William Foster Masonic Lodge, located at 300 N. Commerce St. in Frankston.
Hickory House, owned by Joe and Mary Beard, and Pumping Services Inc. provided food donations. Homemade desserts by members of the churches in Frankston will be available for purchase.
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8924 in Palestine will host a benefit for Julie McClendon starting at 1 p.m. Sunday. The benefit will help raise funds to offset funeral expenses for her husband Will McClendon, who died in a four-wheeler accident a few weeks ago in Mena, Ark.
Plates with barbecue chicken, beans potato salad and a dessert will be sold for $6 a plate. A live auction will be held at 3 p.m. Karaoke will be held all day.
The VFW Post 8924 is located “on the hill” on South Loop 256 in Palestine near Palestine Regional Rehabilitation Center.
