PALESTINE —
A 62-year-old clerk shot in the face during a weekend convenience store robbery in Palestine is expected to survive the shooting, according to local authorities.
Fred Robinson, 62, of Palestine was shot once in the face during the course of a robbery early Sunday morning at Mr. D’s convenience store at 3209 W. Oak St., according to Palestine Police Sgt. James Muniz.
Police say a black male wearing camouflage entered the store around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, displayed a firearm and demanded money from the clerk.
When no money was obtained, the suspect fired a single shot at close range from what authorities believe to be a .22-caliber rifle, striking Robinson in the face, according to Muniz.
The suspect fled the store running in a eastwardly direction on West Point Tap Road, according to police.
Robinson initially was transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center before being later transferred to a Tyler hospital, according to Muniz.
“He’s going to be in the hospital for a few more days,” Muniz told the Herald-Press Monday. “His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.”
As of late Monday afternoon, Muniz said his agency was continuing to investigate the robbery and had no suspects.
“At this point, we don’t (have any suspects),” Muniz said. “We’re just following up.”
Any person providing information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender in the robbery may receive a reward of up to $1,000 from Anderson County Crimestoppers.
Crimestoppers may be contacted by calling 903-729-TIPS (8477).
Persons with information may also call Muniz at 903-731-8477 or Palestine Police Det. Tommy Thacker at 903-731-8479.
