Tickets are $7 each, which includes chili, all of the fixings, drink and homemade pie.
For tickets or additional information, call the church office at 903-729-4214. The church is located at 106 E. Crawford St. Tickets also can be purchased at the door.
95th Birthday Party
A 95th birthday party for Evelyn May will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church’s fellowship hall.
Evelyn was born at the homeplace at Elkhart. She went to school at Friendship School through the fourth grade. In the fifth grade she started school in Elkhart, graduating in 1935.
After graduation, Evelyn attended Nixon Business School in Austin. She returned home and went to work for Frank Montgomery at the gin in Elkhart. Later, she worked in Austin at a secretary pool where she worked for the Chief of Contributions.
On June 3, 1944, she married Thomas E. May. He was in the service and they were married in the chapel at the military base in New Jersey. After he got out of the service, they moved to Houston where his parents lived.
Thomas went to watch-making school and got a job in Houston. They stayed in Houston for a while then moved to Austin where they lived for about a year.
Eventually, he got a phone call wanting him to come to work for Kolstad Jewelry Store, so that’s when they came back to Palestine. In 1949, they bought their home on Angelina Street and Evelyn is still living in the same home.
Evelyn is the only sibling left out of seven children.
Her children are requesting all family and friends to come by and see her on her birthday.
No gifts please. The church is located at 422 S. Magnolia St.
