PALESTINE —
Anderson County commissioners approved an interlocal agreement with the City of Palestine and began the process of changing the speed limit on a county road during their regular meeting on Monday.
According to Precinct 4 Commissioner Joey Hill, the interlocal agreement regards the clearing of trees and brush at the Palestine Municipal Airport, allowing the utilization of county employees and equipment to do the work.
“The agreement just allows us to do that work for the city,” Hill said, stating that areas to be cleared were at the end of the airport’s runways.
Also during the meeting, Hill presented the court with a petition to change the speed limit on Anderson County Road 415, known as “Rooster Road” to local residents, to 35 MPH.
The petition, signed by residents on the county road, is the first step in the process, with the next step being the advertisement for and holding of a public hearing on the matter prior to the court’s approval.
“Changing the speed limit would allow for more patrolling on that county road,” Hill said.
Commissioners accepted the petition and authorized Hill to set the public hearing.
Also on Monday, the court:
• APPROVED minutes from previous meetings, a budget amendment, bills and utility crossing county roads.
• HEARD the 2012 Racial Profiling statistics, presented by Sheriff Greg Taylor.
• HEARD from Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Emily Lane that the Anderson County Juvenile Detention Center has been certified.
• APPROVED all new and renewed bonds from Elected/Appointed Officials, Reserve Deputies and Constable Reserves.
• APPROVED Xerox renewal contracts for the Elections department and the Sheriff’s office.
• APPROVED the lateral transfer of two county trucks between Precinct 4 and the Anderson County shop.
• DISCUSSED and reviewed the survey of Davey Dogwood Park.
• DISCUSSED in Executive Session, Economic Development Negotiations.
