Dogwood Jamboree set Saturday

PALESTINE — Producers of The Dogwood Jamboree are planning to take the audience on a trip to the “good old days” of county music with its “Down Home Country” show this Saturday at the Palestine Civic Center, located at Loop 256 and Texas 19 in Palestine.

“We are thrilled about Saturday’s show,” produced Dan Manuel said. “Those who have attended in the past to see the performances are all excited also about this upcoming performance.”

Featured performers at the sow will be the Hall Brothers, a Houston-based vocal group known for their ability to imitate artists like The Statler Brothers, The Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama and The Gatlin Brothers.

“If you like those groups, you will love this show,” Manuel said. “Brothers Matthew, Mitchell, Jack and Neil Hall bring over 35 years of entertainment experience to the stage with performances that showcase a tight blend of four-part harmony.”

The group will be performing songs like, “Dream On,” “Elvira,” “All The Gold In California,” “Dig A Little Deeper In The Well,” “Do You Know You Are My Sunshine,” “Oh Play Me Some Mountain Music” and other hits.

“They have performed all over our state and in other states also,” Manuel said. “You will think you are listening to the original artists, because they are fabulous.”

Also performing at Saturday’s Jamboree will be Joe Hancock, Tammy Bostick, Hal Roper, Kimmy Hendricks, Sissy Perry, George Lester, Chloe Collins and Manuel. Guest comedian Dean Robertson of Longview will be teaming up with Jamboree comedienne “Flo,” to provide comedy relief.

Three contestants also will be competing in the “Dogwood Jamboree Talent Search” on Saturday.

“These kids are super talented and will help make the evening an enjoyable experience,” Manuel said. “There are a number of talented young people in the East Texas area and many of them never get a chance to perform on venues like the Jamboree, so we have taken the liberty to allow them to do so.”

According to Manuel, Saturday’s Jamboree promises to be a memorable event and one that will attract a lot of “folks.”

“This show is sure to be one of our best shows of the year,” Manuel said. “Some of the best classic country songs and hits will live in our memory and the performers that night will try to recreate some of the sounds and music that country music fans have listened to through the years.

“If you have never attended one of the shows, make a point to bring the family out and enjoy the music, artists and comedy at the evening performance and vote for your favorite artist in the talent search contest,” he added. “Those competing on the show that night will be selected by a panel of judges and audience vote.

“The show is sponsored by local businesses and is designed as ‘family entertainment.’”

The Dogwood Jamboree starts at 7 p.m. and doors open at 6 p.m. Door prizes are given away during intermission. For more information or to purchase advance/group tickets at a discounted rate of $12.50, call 903-723-7080 or 903-724-2556.
