PALESTINE —
A two-vehicle, head-on collision killed a Palestine woman and a Killeen man Friday morning on U.S. 79, right outside of Palestine, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The wreck occurred at 10:02 a.m. on U.S. 79, .4 miles north of Anderson County Road 330 (Neches Trace Road), according to the DPS.
Bobbie J. Compter, 75, of Palestine, was killed when the 1995 Toyota Corolla she was driving northbound on U.S. 79 was struck head on by a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup driven by Larry Ray Porterfield, 60, of Killeen, the DPS said.
According to the DPS, Porterfield’s pickup, which was southbound on U.S. 79, crossed into northbound traffic and hit Compter’s vehicle.
Compter was pronounced dead at the scene by Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd.
Porterfield was transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center where he died from his injuries, the DPS said.
Both Compter and Porterfield were wearing seat belts, according to the DPS.
DPS trooper Lynn Hubert of Palestine investigated the wreck.
