PALESTINE —
Texas Comptroller Susan Combs announced July 11 that state sales tax revenue in June was $1.98 billion, up 15.2 percent compared to June 2011.
“Sales tax revenue has increased for 27 consecutive months in Texas,” Combs said. “Strong business spending in industries such as manufacturing and oil and natural gas boosted the latest sales tax collections. Revenue from consumer spending in the retail trade and restaurant sectors also did well.”
Combs sent July local sales tax allocations totaling $534.6 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts. July sales tax allocations are up 12.7 percent compared to July 2011.
Texas cities received $350.3 million, up 11 percent compared to July 2011. So far this calendar year, city sales tax allocations are up 8.55 percent compared to the same time period last year.

The City of Elkhart’s payment of $8,512 rose $825 versus last year’s July payment of $7,687. Year-to-date allocations increased $3,837 — from $60,990 in 2011 to $64,827 in sales tax allocations received so far in 2012.
