The sounds of Christmas music will fill up the historic auditorium at the Museum for East Texas Culture during the annual Dulcimer Christmas Concert on Friday, Dec. 7.
The concert, benefiting the museum, will start at 7 p.m. and feature the Wright family of Kennard, including Jerry and Margaret Wright along with their son and daughter-in-law, Lloyd and April Wright.
The Wright family has organized the Palestine Old Time Music & Dulcimer Festival for the past 11 years at the museum every spring. The Wrights caught the dulcimer and old time music bug after a family vacation where they passed through Missouri and Arkansas in 1994, hearing the old time music coming from the Appalachian Mountains. Over the years, their skill increased. Their son Lloyd Wright became the National Mountain Dulcimer Champion in 2000. The family traveled to many festivals over the years, and both Margaret Wright and Lloyd Wright hold workshops at many of the festivals. Margaret Wright also produces the popular Twelve Tune Song Book, which includes old time sheet music for the mountain dulcimer.
Through the years the local festival has grown, bringing in some of the best dulcimer and old time music artists from around the country to serve as headliners for the concerts and to lead workshops.
The Wrights will showcase their talents during the Dulcimer Christmas Concert.
Advanced tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at the museum office or at the door the night of the event.
The museum is located at 400 S. Micheaux St. behind Reagan Park.

PHS alum wins bullriding title
Former Palestine High School Class of 1988 graduate Troy Moseley recently won the title of Reserve World Champion in the World Senior Bull Riding Association along with the average championship at the world finals.
He achieved these top honors at the age of 43, competing in the age group of 41 to 46.
Moseley began riding bulls at age 13, with the encouragement and guidance of his cousin Richard Mhoon. He began competing while attending Palestine High School as a member of the Texas High School Rodeo Association Region 9 and qualified for the state finals.
After graduating from high school, Moseley joined the Marines while continuing his rodeo career. During his eight year tour of duty, he was a member of the Military Rodeo Cowboy Association and finished fourth in the world in 1991.
Moseley continued to ride bulls throughout his adult life. In 2006, he began participating in the Texas Senior Pro Rodeo Association where he finished third for three consecutive years. He, along with Robert long and Morgan Saunders, established the World Senior Professional Bull Riders Association in 2009. Since its inception, it has grown to become the largest senior bull riding association in the world. Competitors must be at least 35 years of age and can compete as long as they are able. Some have come from as far away as Oklahoma, New Mexico, Montana, Missouri, Louisiana, Canada and Australia to compete. Moseley served as stock director from 2009 to 2011 and was vice president in 2012.
Finals were held Oct. 5-6 in Bastrop. Moseley was officially named Reserve World Champion at an Oct. 7 awards ceremony.
Moseley currently owns his own welding company, Triangle Plus Welding. He lives in Alvarado with his wife of 21 years, Stacey Moseley. They have two sons, Scout, 12, and Bandy, 4. Scout is known as a junior bull fighter, while Bandy participates in mutton busting events.
