PALESTINE —
Archery enthusiasts will compete in the second annual 3-D Archery Shoot Saturday, sponsored by Tennessee Colony Church.
Targets of all shapes and sizes will be set at different ranges for men, ladies and youth shooters. A long bow category also is planned. Entry fee is $20.
“It’s just a fun outdoor day with family members,” event organizer Wayne Whitten said. “This is an outreach opportunity through our church where fathers and sons, mothers and daughters can have fun and enjoy each other’s companies in a Christ-like setting. We want people to see that church events can be fun.”
Handmade cedar trophies, which also are bow mounts, will be given away to first-place winners in the 3-D archery shoot. Cedar trophies also will be presented to the second- and third-place winners in each category.
Last year’s event included shooters from Waco, Abilene and all over East Texas.
“We had about 22 shooters last year and about 150 people between the family member watching the shooting,” Whitten said. “We hope to double that this year.”
Concessions will include barbecue, sausage on a stick and hamburgers.
An auction is planned after the event and includes two hope chests and multiple deer mounts.
“We will have a real neat auction this year. We had cut down some cedar trees on the church property and the chests were made from those trees,” Whitten said.
The event is sponsored by Tennessee Colony Church.
The archery shoot will start at 10 a.m. near the Satterwhite homestead on FM 645 about 2.4 miles south of the Tennessee Colony Church. Registration will start at 9 a.m. For more information or directions, contact Whitten at 903-948-8282.
