Mims seeks another term as Precinct 2 commissioner
PALESTINE — After three years of fiscal responsibility and service to the county Anderson County Precinct 2 Commissioner Rashad Q. Mims is asking the voters of Precinct 2 for another term in office.
“There’s nothing that speaks for you like your record, and I think my record speaks for itself,” Mims said, and noted he enjoys serving the people of the county and Precinct 2 especially and “being the person they can call on to meet their needs.”
Among his accomplishments for the county and the precinct Mims noted he has paved and brought many county roads in Precinct 2 up to standard. He has managed to increase the budget of the Precinct 2 Road and Bridge Department and he said he helped bring peace to the Anderson County Commissioners Court.
As for the roads in his precinct Mims said, “I make weekly inspections of our roads and bridges.”
He also is proud of the fact his precinct has maintained a balanced budget.
“I have never been in favor of raising county taxes,” Mims said. “I don’t want to burden the people with higher taxes, but I always want to make sure the county has means to operate and provide the necessary services to the people.”
While the budget process has been tough over the past couple of years, Mims said the county, like everybody else has had to tighten its belt a little.
In spite of the tight times, what Mims considers one of his biggest accomplishments was that he has been able to purchase newer and safer equipment for the Precinct 2 Road and Bridge Department.
“That provides a safer working environment and allows us to get work done for people in a timely manner,” Mims said.
As for the future, the 29-year-old Mims said he wants to continue to set realistic, short-term goals to see to the needs of his precinct and the county as a whole.
Some of those goals include the continued upgrading of the county roads in his precinct in order to get them a better classification and to continue his training to become a master certified commissioner in the next few years in order to better serve the people of the county.
“These past three years have equipped me to have the experience to continue to do this job,” Mims said. “I want to continue to serve the people of Precinct 2 with enthusiasm, commitment and a dedication to finish the job I started three years ago.”
Mims and his wife Deonta have two children, 7-year-old Nadia Faith and 6-year-old Rashad Q. Mims II.
