PALESTINE —
The Westwood Independent School District’s Board of Trustees is expected to consider the district’s 2012-13 school year budget during a special meeting set for Monday.
A public hearing on the budget is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the WISD administration building at 4524 W. Oak St.
The special meeting is set to follow the public hearing, beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the same location.
Following a brief presentation of the 2012-13 budget by district officials, audience members will have the opportunity to make comments during the public hearing.
During a June meeting, WISD officials presented preliminary information on the 2012-13 budget, indicating the district’s total expenditures were expected to be approximately $13.8 million.
Revenues were anticipated to be lower than that amount, with the district expected to utilize a portion of its approximately $7.7 million fund balance to balance the budget.
Like most public school districts throughout the state, Westwood’s budget has been strained in recent years by reduced funding from the state and other outside sources.
Items on the special meeting’s agenda include:
• CONSIDER final budget amendments for 2011-12 school year.
• CONSIDER and take action to adopt the school district’s budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year.
• ACCEPT the certified appraisal roll for the tax year 2012 and accept the effective and rollback rates for the tax year 2012.
• CONSIDER and take action to adopt the current year tax rate.
