PALESTINE —
For those with busy weekday and Saturday schedules, registered voters in Anderson County have the opportunity to cast their ballots today in the May 29 party primary elections.
All early voting in Anderson County takes place at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex.
Today’s early voting hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Early voting continues through Friday in Anderson County and throughout the state.
In Anderson County, early voting hours for the remainder of the week are as follows:
Monday through Thursday — 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday — 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
At the county level, there are three contested elections in the Republican Primary.
There are no contested county elections, meanwhile, in the Democratic Primary in Anderson County.
On the Republican side, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, who is seeking his third term, is being challenged by Palestine policeman Richard Welch.
There were no other filers in the sheriff’s race, so the Taylor-Welch winner will begin a four-year term on Jan. 1, 2013.
At the precinct level, there are a pair of contested GOP constable races (Ronnie Foster and Jeff Taylor in precinct 1 and Kim Dickson and Ronnie Holcomb in precinct 3).
The Foster-Jeff Taylor winner will face long-time officeholder Larry Bennett, who is unopposed in the Democratic Primary, in the fall general election.
The Dickson-Holcomb victor, meanwhile, will begin a four-year term on Jan. 1, 2013.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at various locations throughout the county on Election Day Tuesday, May 29.
