PALESTINE —
Two and a half months later than originally scheduled, early voting in the May 29 party primary elections begins Monday at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex.
Anderson County features a trio of local contested races in the Republican Primary highlighted by the sheriff's race which pits incumbent Greg Taylor against Palestine policeman Richard Welch.
The Taylor-Welch winner will earn a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2013 since there are no Democrats running for the office.
There are a pair of GOP constable races in precinct 1 and precinct 3.
In precinct 1, Ronnie Foster, a sergeant investigator with the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, faces Jeff Taylor, an Anderson County sheriff's deputy, for the right to face long-time officeholder and Democrat Larry Bennett in the November general election.
Meanwhile, incumbent Kim Dickson is being challenged again by Anderson County sheriff's deputy Ronnie Holcomb in the precinct 3 constable's race.
Four years ago, Dickson defeated Holcomb by 61 votes (52 percent-to-48 percent).
All early voting takes place at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex on the following days:
