Burglary suspect arrested

PALESTINE — Almost two weeks after the burglary of a Palestine liquor store, Palestine Police Department officers arrested a 22-year-old suspect sought for in the crime.

On Aug. 18, police officers responded to a reported burglary at the Round House Package Store located at 415 W. Spring St., with an initial report that an unknown person used force to enter into the building and take an undetermined amount of money.

The suspect, later identified as Victor Loggains, 22, of Palestine, was arrested by Palestine Police detectives without incident Thursday at his residence in the 1900 block of West Point Tap Road.

“Detectives were at the home of Loggains when he showed up there,” Palestine Police Department Sgt. James Muniz said. “(They) also recovered items at the home that had been reported stolen from the store, including cash and a handgun.”

During the investigation, Det. Tommy Thacker obtained information from Crime Stoppers tips and from several concerned citizens. This information led to the residence on West Point Tap, the arrest of Loggains and the recovery of the property.

Loggains was taken to the Anderson County Jail where he was booked for the offense of burglary of a building — a felony which carries a term of not less than six months and not more than two years in a state jail facility.

Loggains has been released on a $25,000 bond.
