Annual black history program slated Sunday

PALESTINE — A local church will discuss finding the right career path and hear from a life coach during its annual Black History Day celebration.

Massey Lake Church of the Living God PGT will host its annual Black History Day program at 3 p.m. Sunday.

“We have members of the church — such as a nurse and a railroad conductor and others — who will wear their uniforms and discuss their jobs,” the church pastor Annell Haney said. “We are trying to reach young people to show that hard work does pay off. It may take you a while to get there, but you can do it.”

Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Vance Vaughn of Church of the Living God PGT of Athens.

Life coach Rashid Hill, author of “8 Ways to be 10 X Better: New, Exciting Ways to Upgrade Your Personal, Professional and Social Life,” will be one of the speakers. He also will be signing books from 2:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the start of the program.

Hill has faced several trials in his life including arriving home when he was a child seeing his house burning down and later in life, dealing with a divorce. He also had his dreams of being an Olympic track and field athlete shattered.

Hill overcame those obstacles and bounced back. Working for the government, he has shared the stage with high-level speakers during special functions. As an entrepreneur, he has spoken extensively on local and international levels conducting keynote, team building and leadership training for his team.

Hill has written articles and created websites for strategic life and career coaching. His book is supported by a training website, webinars, seminars and more. He lives with his wife, Ritchel, and son, Yusif, in the Northeast Texas area.
