PALESTINE —
Four local people have been arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity in connection with the burglary of an uninhabited residence east of Palestine.
William Brian Holden, 20, Michael Alexander White, 20, Lindsey Paige Hayes, 19, and Jonathon Kyle Rea, 17, all of Palestine, have been charged with engaging in organized criminal activity/burglary of a habitation, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
The sheriff said the four suspects allegedly took numerous items out of a residence in the 4800 block of Texas 84, about 4 miles east of Palestine, between April 15 and 22.
“It was a residence that had not been lived in and still had a lot of property in it,” Taylor explained.
The sheriff said the suspects entered the residence “two or three times” during the week-long span, gaining entry initially by forcing open a door on the side of the house.
Many of the stolen items were “collectibles,” according to Taylor, including GI Joe dolls; a stamp collection; toy cars; an antique phone; and Power Ranger action figures.
Total value of the stolen items is currently estimated to be between $2,000 and $3,000, the sheriff said.
Many of those items were recovered during the course of an April 25 traffic stop when a 1999 Dodge Dakota pickup operated by White was stopped on CR 386 off of Texas 84, according to Taylor.
White’s vehicle was stopped after authorities received a report of “a suspicious vehicle,” the sheriff said.
“I encourage people -- if they see something suspicious in their neighborhood -- to call us,” Taylor added.
White, Hayes and Rea were all arrested Tuesday, while Holden was taken into custody Wednesday morning, according to the sheriff.
Authorities believe the suspects may have stolen additional property from the residence.
“We anticipate there’s been more stolen than what we’ve recovered and that the value’s going to go up,” Taylor said.
As of late Wednesday, Holden remained in the Anderson County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond set by Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd, while the other three suspects also remained in jail each in lieu of a $75,000 bond, according to records.
