PALESTINE —
Local law enforcement authorities arrested five local persons, including two on a felony charge, Thursday during the serving of a narcotics search warrant at a residence in the 600 block of South Dorrance Street.
Kevin Birdow, 31, and LaBarius Robinson, 18, both of Palestine, were each charged with manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance between 4 and 200 grams as a result of the search warrant, according to Palestine Police Lt. Jeffrey M. Powell.
As of Friday, both suspects remained in the Anderson County Jail each in lieu of a $10,000 bond set by Anderson County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Gary Thomas.
Three other persons were charged with misdemeanor offenses in connection with the search warrant, according to police.
Powell said members of the Palestine Police Department and the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office’s tactical team served the search warrant at a residence at 626 S. Dorrance St. at around 2:45 p.m. Thursday.
During the execution of the warrant, the lieutenant said officers seized several grams of suspected cocaine, marijuana, PCP and prescription medications, in addition to multiple items of drug paraphernalia.
Two pistols were also recovered on or near the property, according to police.
Powell lauded the work of sheriff’s Sgt. Gary Wilbanks of the Anderson County Drug Task Force and other officers in the case.
“They did a great job putting this together,” Powell said. “They were persistent in seeing that this problem got resolved. (Palestine Police) Chief (Robert) Herbert and I are very proud of their hard work on this. Unfortunately, there are dope houses in several areas in the city.”
The lieutenant added that Palestine police are committed to combating the city’s drug problem.
“It is, however, as most things with law enforcement, going to take the support of the community to stamp out the drug dealing,” he stated. “We need your continued support and information to make this work.”
Powell also thanked Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor and his officers for their contributions to the case.
In addition to the felony arrests, police say a 22-year-old man and a 18-year-old man were arrested on the misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana under 2 ounces during the execution of the search warrant, while a 63-year-old man was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
