PALESTINE —
Set for the second weekend of the Dogwood Trails Celebration, the Dogwood Jamboree will present its “A Country Connection” show at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 23 at the Palestine Civic Center.
“This is sure to be one of the best performances of the Jamboree and we encourage Palestine and the surrounding area to join us along with visitors for various cities and states as we begin our ninth year of production,” Dogwood Jamboree Producer Dan Manuel said. “I’ve always said, if you ever attend one performance, you will want to come back as you listen to the songs that classic country music fans have listened to through the years.”
Local favorites Lori Young and the Bishop Sisters will be performing along with Steve Carpenter, Mandy Seale, Taylor Heard and Kimmy Hendricks (Jamboree Young Artist of the Year 2011).
Others performing include W.J. Copeland, Mike Kellogg, Bobby Perry, Billy Lane, George Lester, Joe Hancock, Neal Hall, Sheila and Rick Wheat, Sandy “Flo” Singleterry, the Dogwood Jamboree singers and Manuel.
Three young artists under the age of 18 will compete to be the March winner of the Dogwood Jamboree Talent Search. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges and audience vote.
“For a long time we have wanted to give the young people of the area an opportunity to perform and in some way help them to advance their music ambitions.” Manuel said. “The winner of this show will advance to the finals in December and compete for the title Artist of the Year.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. At the intermission, door prizes are donated by local merchants and businesses will be given away.
“We want to encourage those who have never attended one of the shows to make a special effort to bring the family out and enjoy the music, artists and comedy that fills the civic center during the evening performance and vote for your favorite artist in the talent search contest,” Manuel said.
Advance tickets are available for $12.50 at Cavender’s Boot City, Dogwood Diner, Hometown Pharmacy and Bishop’s Bar-B-Q. Advance tickets will be sold through 5 p.m. Friday, March 22.
Tickets at the door will be $15.
