Toddler's drowning death investigated

CEDAR CREEK LAKE — The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department continued its investigation into the drowning death of a toddler in Cedar Creek Lake Wednesday.

Truitt Kennedy, not quite 2 years old, fell into the water and drowned, according to game warden Dustin Balfaufens.

Henderson County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received the 9-1-1 call shortly after noon Wednesday, reporting an emergency in the area of the Southwood Shores Subdivision. A short time later, rescue personnel arrived at the location on the east side of the lake and attempted unsuccessfully to revive the child.

Balfaufens said the deceased child and his 4-year-old brother had been at a residence in the care of their mother before the child made his way to the lake. The victim’s father was the first to discover the body.

Balfaufens declined to give further information concerning the events surrounding the death and said there are still details for the investigation to determine.

Unconfirmed reports from witnesses said the Payne Springs Fire/Rescue and other emergency units were called to the scene. When the child proved to be unresponsive, he was transported to East Texas Medical Center in Gun Barrel City where he was pronounced dead.
