GRAPELAND —
A special “Music at the Little White Church” concert is planned at the old First Christian Memorial Church in Grapeland to raise funds for the Grapeland Public Library.
The concert will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 21 and will feature music by the “Hwy.. 19” band consisting of Stuart Anderson on banjo from Commerce, Jeff Harrison on front bass of Fairfield, Andi Huff on fiddle from Grapeland and Tammy Hassell Bass Anderson on guitar and vocals of Commerce.
The concert also will feature Daron Stone, a piano student at Rice University, who will be accompanied by Huff.
“This is the sixth semi annual concert that we’ve done. Usually we’ve done it for some benefit or organization or a family in need. This year we want to help the Grapeland library, which has lost some of its funding and is in need of financial support,” Tammy Hassell Bass Anderson said Wednesday during a phone interview. “We want to help them.”
Admission to the concert is free, but a love offering will be taken for the library. After the concert, a reception will be held at the library.
“It will be a good night of family entertainment. We usually have a full house,” Anderson said. “Afterwards, those in attendance will be able to enjoy refreshments and have the opportunity to see the library.”
The library is located a few blocks from the church.
The band “Hwy. 19” plays a little of everything from blue grass, ‘50s, Beatles, etc.
“We have big influences from every decade,” Anderson said.
First Christian Memorial Church is located off U.S. 287 Business in downtown Grapeland on Market Street. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Parking assistance and door prizes have been planned.
