Police seek help to solve local burglaries

Public meeting to discuss issue set

PALESTINE — Palestine police are requesting the public’s help in assisting their investigation into a recent rash of residential burglaries inside the city limits.

Over the past several weeks, Palestine Police Sgt. James Muniz said a series of residential burglaries have occurred in an area generally from Lamar Street to Inwood Drive.

The sergeant said his agency has received a report possibly linking a white suburban type vehicle occupied by multiple males to one of the offenses, while another was received involving a small red-colored car, possibly a Nissan, with out-of-state license plates.

“Detectives are asking for assistance from the public,” Muniz said. “Anyone with information concerning people or vehicles that are not normally in these areas are asked to call the police at once. Detectives have several leads that are being looked into at this time. However, additional information from the public could help to speed up the investigation.”

Anyone with information leading to the arrest of a suspect or suspects in the burglaries may be eligible to receive a reward of up to $1,000 from Anderson County Crimestoppers.

Crimestoppers can be contacted at (903) 729-TIPS (8477).

Citizens also are invited to attend a community forum hosted by the Palestine Police Department next week at Southside Baptist Church on Crockett Road.

The forum is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the recent residential burglaries will be among the discussion items.
