Bill & Star: Final four teams compete on ‘Greatest American Dog’ show

Greatest American Dog Recap: “Dog Swap”

Airdate: Sept. 3

Here's recap of Greatest American Dog's “Dog Swap” episode on CBS:

This week, the final four owners and pets fight it out in a test of loyalty. In the Dog Bone Challenge, the owner that can keep their dog either standing or sitting on a stump the longest wins. Andrew was disqualified first for laying down, then went Galaxy. After the two remaining dogs sat there for something like 12 minutes, Travis tries to make a deal with Teresa that both should give up and share the prize. Teresa sensing weakness won't budge. In just under 18 minutes Travis finally gives up to show his loyalty to Presley and calls Presley off. Teresa and Leroy get a Leg Up in the Best In Show, will spend the week in the Dog Bone Suite and make a video call to Teresa's boyfriend.

Teresa's leg up in the Best In Show Challenge is a note that explains the full details of the challenge, that being, the dog will be in the center of a semi circle surrounded by outer circles with the owner several feet away while the other owners try to lure them out. All the owners spend an hour training and bonding with the others dogs, so better to lure the dog to them. During the bonding time all the dogs happily work and play with the other owners, except for Andrew, he wants nothing to do with Travis or JD and even gets away from JD to run to Momma. It's funny because just after JD proclaims himself the best trainer there we see a shot of him running right past Andrew and all around the grounds looking for him while Andrew is right there next to Laurie watching JD run around.

That night our host explains the challenge to the rest of the contestants. They will be judged on owner's commands, the dog's focus and overall loyalty. Laurie and Andrew are up first. The other owners try and lure him with treats, toys and even imitating Laurie's "weeeeeee" sound. He just looks at them with a "you bore me" yawn and lays down until his time is up. Teresa and Leroy are next, all the other contestants get him to move and bark, he wants to play so bad, but he doesn't completely leave the outer circle. The judges do not looked pleased. Next up, JD and Galaxy. It seems Teresa may lure her with treats but Galaxy sits back down when JD tells her to. Last is Travis and Presley, Teresa and Laurie manage to get the puppy to move and JD gets him to come completely out of the outer circles.

Afterwards the judges have a disagreement on how to judge the challenge. Leroy stayed inside the outer circles for Teresa, but the judges felt like her tone was too harsh. Presley completely left the outer circle but Travis used softer commands. In the end Laurie and Andrew get Best In Show. Judge Alan tells JD he felt like Galaxy's performance was robotic, which doesn't make any sense since her performance was basically the same as Andrew's, who they showered with praise. Judge Victoria felt JD's commands were too dominating.

Even though Teresa and Leroy technically won the competition, the judges feel like Travis and Presley displayed more loyalty between each other, so Teresa and Leroy are eliminated.

Next week (Wednesday, Sept. 10) will be the final episode. All the eliminated contestants (including our very own Bill and Star!) will be back for a reunion and we will find out who is America's Greatest Dog. ''

Of course, here in the real world, we already know who that is...it's our own dog!
