Boston Porter bull riding event benefits local youth
PALESTINE — Frontier Rodeo will present the second annual Boston Porter Memorial Scholarship Bull Riding event at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Anderson County Youth Livestock Riding & Roping Arena on U.S. 287 North.
The event will be sanctioned by the Professional Bullriders Association and will feature eight-time World Champ Don Gay and five-time World Champ Rob Smet as commentators and master of ceremonies.
The memorial scholarship event is named in honor of Boston Porter, grandson of local residents Jimmy and Kim Ray.
“We lost Boston in August of 2006 in a tragic accident,” Jimmy Ray said. “At only 14 1/2 months old, he was already excited about watching bull riding, raising bulls and being outdoors. He loved animals.”
Boston’s first bull, No. 103 Bostons Best Bet, can be seen on television at the televised PBR events.
“We have set up a fund to raise money for annual scholarships for the youth of Anderson County,” Ray said. “All the money will go to this fund.
“We are asking for support from the community for those who want to sponsor, and want everyone to remember how important and precious children and grandchildren are.”
Tickets for the rodeo are available at Cavender’s Boot City in Palestine (903-729-8106), Montalba General Store (903-549-2975), Colony General Store (903-928-2611) and at Lonestar Chevrolet in Teague (254-739-2500).
Donations to the scholarship fund can be donated to the Boston Porter Memorial Scholarship Fund at East Texas National Bank.
