PALESTINE —
Dogwood Trails Assisted Living & Memory Care will hold a Mardi Gras themed gumbo fund-raiser to benefit the Stockpot of Palestine.
Gumbo, garlic bread and king cake will be served at noon Tuesday, Feb. 12 on Mardi Gras, or “Fat Tuesday.”
Cost for the lunch is a donation of three cans of food for the Stockpot, which provides a lunch five days a week for those in need.
For those who would like to donate food items, money, or volunteer at the Stockpot, call Jerry Thompson at 903-729-1826.
Dogwood Trails Assisted Living & Memory Care is located at 1625 W. Spring St.
For information on the Mardi Gras celebration, call Debbie Wesson at 903-373-8639.
Fund-raiser planned for adult daycare
Women of The Cornerstone will hold a fund-raiser in February to benefit the Palestine Adult Daycare.
The fund-raiser, which will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Palestine Senior Activity Center, will feature a ceremony to honor several of the community’s military veterans and a fashion show sponsored by local retail stores.
Theme for the program is “Love and Families from the Cradle to the Rocker.”
Palestine Adult Daycare, located at 910 Crockett Rd., is an independent licensed adult daycare which provides care for elderly or disabled adults. The business differs from nursing homes because the participants are not residents of the facility. The daycare serves two main purposes: to provide a time of rest for the caregiver and to provide social interaction for the disabled or elderly adult in a secure and safe emotional and physical environment.
The program will start with presentation of medals to local veterans. Military service members and veterans in the audience also will be acknowledged.
The fashion show, featuring children and adult models, will follow.
From 5 to 10:30 p.m., a family dance will be held and children are welcome.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Food can be purchased at the location.
Many members of the community are volunteering their time to assist. For tickets or for more information, call Ada Morrow at 903-394-9398.
