Church hosting "Give me the Bible" event Saturday

PALESTINE — Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine will host the annual “Give me The Bible” television conference from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

The theme for the conference is “Bringing the Lost to Jesus,” and features speakers  Rocky Whitely from Bryan and Joe Hancock from Hallsville.

The “Give Me the Bible” program started in April 1989 and begins its 24th year of production this April. Many East Texas Churches of Christ help sponsor the program that airs at 7 a.m. each Sunday on KETK NBC-56 in Tyler.

Four years ago this program started it’s national and international broadcast over the GBN (Gospel Broadcasting Network). The “Give Me The Bible” program is telecast at 8:30 a.m. each Sunday out of South Haven, Miss.

“Thousands of lives reportedly have been touched by this telecast and a large number have become Christians as a result of the combined efforts of those who support the program,” Crockett Road Church of Christ pastor Dan Manuel said.

The program, produced in the KETK studio two times a month, features a toll free number by which listeners can call in with questions or comments or to enroll in a free Bible correspondence course offered on the program each week. The telecast is under the oversight of the Elders of Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine.

The "Give Me The Bible" program features East Texas ministers discussing various religious topics each week as well as answering questions sent in by the viewers.

Regular panelists on the program include: Joe Hancock, Hallsville Church of Christ; Dan Manuel, Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine; Steve Neville, Broad Street Church of Christ in Mineola; Jack Orbison, Cushing and Reklaw Churches of Christ; Neal Thurman, University Church of Christ in Tyler; Chris Vidacovich, Chandler Street Church of Christ; Perry Cowan, Shady Grove Church of Christ; and Paul Hillier from Lufkin.

Other guests panelists appear on the program at various intervals with the regular panelists rotating as hosts or moderators for the weekly telecast.

East Texas churches who currently support the program are Crockett Road Church of Christ in Palestine and other Churches of Christ in Alto, Athens, Cushing, Frankston, Hallsville, Hemphill, Gladewater, Diana, Groveton, Grapeland,  Jacksonville, Jefferson, Kilgore, La Poynor, Lyles St., Mt. Enterprise, Mt. Vernon,  Mineola, New Summerfield, Overton, Quitman,  Reklaw, Shady Grove, University Church of Christ in Tyler, West Lake Shores Church of Christ in Chandler, and  Southwest Church of Christ in Tyler.

The program covers a large listening area and is made available on several cable systems. Dish Network also carries the program in various places. According to a recent Neilson Poll, the program has the largest religious listening audience on Sunday morning in the East Texas area according to recent data reports.

The daily commentary, “Something To Think About,” featuring Manuel, also started in September of 2008. The commentary airs at 6:55 a.m. Monday through Friday on NBC 56.

The morning commentary give the audience a positive thought for the morning to begin the day and also serves as a promotional for the “Give Me The Bible” television program. These one minute segments also appear on TBN and the Inspirational Network.
