PALESTINE —
A 18-year-old Palestine man performing community supervision was arrested Wednesday on a burglary warrant and gained other charges when he allegedly fled from officers.
Ray Charles McQueen Jr., 18, of Palestine was performing community supervision at the Anderson County Livestock Riding & Roping Arena around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when representatives of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office arrived to serve a burglary of a habitation warrant, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
The sheriff said Anderson County sheriff’s deputy Jamie Lester had placed her hands on McQueen and was attempting to put handcuffs on him when the suspect fled on foot.
“Several officers responded after he (McQueen) ran,” Taylor said. “They did catch him several hundred yards behind the riding and roping arena.”
McQueen allegedly burglarized a residence in the 1700 block of FM 323 between noon and 3 p.m. on Sept. 27, stealing a Sony PlayStation valued at $300 and two video games valued at $30 each, according to Taylor.
Those items have been recovered “at a local business in town,” the sheriff stated.
McQueen’s original warrant for burglary of a habitation carried a $75,000 bond set by Anderson County Justice of the Peace James Todd. He now faces additional charges of resisting arrest and evading arrest or detention, according to Taylor.
As of mid-afternoon Wednesday, bond amounts had not been set on McQueen’s new charges.
Despite his age, Taylor said McQueen has already established a lengthy criminal history.
“We’re glad,” the sheriff said, “to have him in custody.”
