Montalba Fall Festival features parade, pet show and more

PALESTINE — A parade, children’s pet show, arts and crafts and live auction are among the festivities planned for the annual Montalba Fall Festival.

The festival, set for Saturday, Sept. 29, will kick off with a parade at 10 a.m. The parade route will start on FM 321, heading to Texas 19 North and ending at the Montalba Community Center grounds, where the festival will continue throughout the day.

A children’s pet show will be held at 10:30 a.m. Categories include: best dressed, most obedient, smallest, largest, most friendly and best of show. Prizes will be awarded and the contest is free to enter. All pets are welcome. No stuffed animals. The contest is for children only. Pre-registration is needed by Sept. 27. Festival organizers are seeking exhibits for their annual show. The categories include produce, home canning, arts and crafts, and more. There will be a special youth section for children to enter. Everyone is welcome to participate. Guidelines and show times may be obtained by calling Connie Giles at 903-714-6650.

Vendors are encouraged to reserve a 10x10 foot booth space for the arts and crafts shows set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. To reserve a booth or find out more information, call Clay Hamil at 903-549-2384.

Can you bake a prize winning chocolate pie? Are you a man that makes a mean cake?

If so, enter the Annual Montalba Fall Fest Chocolate Pie Contest and Men’s Cake Baking Contest. Pies and cakes must be at the Montalba Community Center by 11:30 a.m. on the day of the festival. Judging will be at 12:30 p.m.

The winning pie and cake will be auctioned. All proceeds benefit the community. For more information, call Jill Hamil at 903-549-2384.

A live auction will be held at 1 p.m. at the Montalba Volunteer Fire Department, located next to the community center. All proceeds will benefit the Montalba Community Improvement Association and the Montalba Volunteer Fire Department. Donations for the auction are needed. A handmade queen size quilt will be given away. This quilt was handcrafted by ladies of the Montalba Community Improvement Association. This has been the association’s main fund for over 40 years. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5. Purchase tickets the day of the festival or in advance at all of the local banks. You need not be present to win. For information, call 903-549-2384.

Barbecue dinners will be sold. Meals include a drink and homemade desserts. Serving will begin at 11 a.m. Proceeds  benefit the Montalba Volunteer Fire Department. For more information about the barbecue, call Cookie Wilbanks at 903-549-2537.
