Authorities still seek burglary suspect
— Anderson County sheriff’s authorities continue to seek one suspect in the Thanksgiving theft of a 1-ton generator near Neches, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
Geoffrey Shaye Bush, 20, of Jacksonville is wanted on the charge of engaging in organized criminal activity/theft $1,500-to-$20,000, according to the sheriff.
“He (Bush) has been in contact with us by phone,” Taylor said late last week. “We can’t find him. He’s in hiding. He’ll get picked up sooner or later.”
The sheriff said his agency has information that Bush may be in West Texas.
Authorities have said they believe Jeremy Ray Jones, 29, and Bush stole a 1,600-pound generator from a Verizon Wireless cell phone tower site off the south side of U.S. 79 near the Neches cutoff on or about Nov. 25 and later sold it to two other Jacksonville men for $8,000.
The alleged purchasers of the generator -- 49-year-old Mario Ramirez Trujillo and 43-year-old Alejandro H. Rodriguez -- were arrested on Jan. 27 after turning themselves in at the Anderson County Jail, according to the sheriff.
Jones had been arrested eight days earlier on Jan. 18, authorities have said.
Jones, Trujillo and Rodriguez have all been released from jail after posting bonds, according to records.
The 50,000-watt generator valued at $15,000 was recovered last month in Jacksonville and returned to Verizon officials, according to Taylor.
Taylor has described the offense as a “brazen theft,” saying the perpetrators undertook “a painstaking job” which required special equipment.
“It (the generator) had metal anchors that were connected to a slab that they had to cut,” the sheriff said last month. “It wasn’t an easy theft. They had to have some equipment to lift it...They knew exactly what they were looking for.”
The generator is approximately 6 1/2 feet tall, 4 feet wide and 8 feet long.
