PALESTINE —
For the first time ever, Palestine residents will get to enjoy an ice skating rink during the holiday season.
The Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce will host a Holiday Ice Skating Rink located in historic downtown Palestine Dec. 7-9.
The ice skating rink promises to be a huge attraction for adults, children and families alike from Palestine and the entire East Texas region.
“This type of event will bring families into our community and create a warm and inviting atmosphere that is beneficial to everyone,” said Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Meghan Hill. “The ice rink is something that we expect to be a new treasured tradition in Palestine for many years to come.”
The rink, which will located just off Spring Street in the heart of Palestine’s downtown area, will provide a sparkling venue where holiday memories will be made.
“This wholesome outdoor activity will tap into the magic of the holiday season and offer a safe, family-friendly destination,” Hill said.
The state-of-the-art ice rink will have a special synthetic “ice” which performs like regular ice. Super-Glide Ice is the world’s best synthetic ice skating surface composed of specially engineered polymers that allow a skate blade to glide as smoothly as on real ice. This eco-friendly synthetic ice rink is made from a non-toxic, recyclable acrylic material. This ice can be used in any climate conditions so the rink will be open rain or shine. This surface provides optimum skating performance and is perfect for beginners and professionals of all ages, starting as young as 20 months, according to a news release.
“This is sure to be a huge hit with families throughout the community, and will extend the fun of Palestine’s downtown event ‘season,’” Hill said.
Skates are included free with the general admission fee. Rink hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8; and Sunday, Dec. 9, noon to 5 p.m.
