PALESTINE —
A cancer fund-raising benefit for Palestine native Seanelle Orr Dice featuring live music from several local performers will be held Saturday at the Museum for East Texas Culture.
Seanelle, daughter of Jim and Retta Orr of Palestine, was diagnosed with stage IV cancer in September 2011. She is now in the midst of her second phase of chemotherapy treatment and radiation. Cancer has been found in her brain, lungs and colon. Seanelle, 44, and her husband, Guy, of Tomball, have two sons, ages 15 and 25 and one grandchild. She is a 1987 graduate of Palestine High School.
“There are people all over the country praying for her. Ever since she was a little girl, she has always lived for everybody else. Sometimes I wonder why things like this happen to people like her, but she’s not complaining and we aren’t complaining. She’s in the fight and she’s going to fight it all the way,” her father Jim Orr said during a telephone interview with the Herald-Press Tuesday. “She’s in the Lord’s hands. I am so thankful to everyone for their support and may God bless us all.”
The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the museum, located at 400 Micheaux Ave. behind Reagan Park.
Proceeds from the event will help with Seanelle’s mounting medical bills.
Live music will be performed by Dan Manuel, Kit Scott, Paul Rawlinson, Cecil Crutcher and Jim Orr.
Crutcher and Orr make up the Yesteryear group, which has performed in Palestine for many years.
Manuel is known for serving as a producer and performer for the bi-monthly Dogwood Jamboree held at the Palestine Civic Center, as well as the minister at Crockett Road Church of Christ.
“Everyone is in for a real treat. I got the chance to practice with Dan Manuel the other day and he will be the star of the show,” Orr said.
Mark and Anita Masters, who led the song service at Joel Osteen’s church in the 1970s also will perform.
Entertainment will include the hits of Marty Robbins, Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, The Platters, The Coasters, Merle Haggard, George Jones, George Strait, Roy Orbison and many others.
A bake sale will feature homemade baked items and Team Seanelle t-shirts will be sold, as well as drawing tickets.
First prize is a Barnes & Noble Nook. A drawing also will be held for four $100 gift cards and a handmade patchwork quilt.
The evening meal will be provided by Jimmy Dean and Cecelia Crutcher.
