Man hurt after hit by vehicle

PALESTINE — A 51-year-old Palestine man was critically injured Monday night when he was hit by a pickup truck while walking along South Loop 256.

Tamayo Marcelo, 51, of Palestine was in “critical” but stable condition at a Tyler hospital following the incident, according to Palestine Police Sgt. James Muniz.

Investigation indicated that Marcelo and another individual were walking on the shoulder of the roadway in the 2900 block of South Loop 256 around 9:15 p.m. Monday when the former was struck by a truck operated by 22-year-old Colby Dwayne Sims of Fairfield, according to Muniz.

The sergeant said Sims left the scene of the wreck without giving aid, but was subsequently identified and questioned by local police.

The person walking with Marcelo was uninjured, according to Muniz.

Marcelo was initially transported to Palestine Regional Medical Center by Emergency Medical Services and later lifeflighted to Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler, according to the sergeant.

The case remains under investigation and upon its conclusion will be forwarded to the Anderson County district attorney’s office for consideration.

Any witnesses to Monday’s wreck are urged to contact Muniz at (903) 731-8477.
