Anderson County AgriLife Extension Agency is working with other local groups to coordinate the Anderson County Hot Pepper Project Show during the Hot Pepper Festival on Oct. 27.
“The Project Show is an event that the community as a whole can participate and support,” Anderson County Extension Agent Holly Black said Friday. “It was decided to bring it back, bigger and better than ever, to mimic the very successful Project Shows held during the old county fairs.”
The Project Show will be held at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Fellowship Hall, located at 106 E. Crawford St.
Categories include baking and desserts, individual items (such as scrapbooks and floral arrangements), creative arts and crafts, shop work, photography, canning and a special Hot Pepper-themed category.
“We have a lot of talent and creativity in Anderson County,” Black said. “The Project Show is a fun way to ‘show-off’ and exhibit items that participants have made, constructed or prepared. Youth through adults with individual talents can showcase their hard work through the Project Show.
“It’s also a fun way to compete with entries that represent your own interests and hobbies.”
The Project Show is open to everyone in the community. The age categories are as follows: pee wee (age 5-7), junior (age 8-13), senior (age 14-19) and adults (age 20 and up).
“I would encourage everyone to take a look at the Project Show categories and start planning on which divisions they would like to enter,” Black said.
Entries must have been made by the exhibitor during the past 12 months.
“Individuals interested should think back through the past 12 months of the projects they have made and taken pride in,” Black said. “It could include a Christmas decoration they finished last December, a winter photo they took in January, a flower arrangement made this spring or the green beans they canned this summer.
“There is no entry fee, so the sky is the limit. Hopefully we will have a lot of entries from a lot of individuals.”
Black said the Project Show should add to all of the festivities going on during the Hot Pepper Festival, which include a parade, live music, Hot Pepper Eating Contest, arts and crafts, kids zone and more.
“The Project Show is going to be packed full of amazing entries this year,” She said. “We encourage all Hot Pepper Festival goers to stop by the Project Show to view the amazing and creative entries.”
Some of the groups with representation on the Project Show committee include Palestine Resource Center for Independent Living, Department of State Health Services and Encompass Home Health.
“Everyone on our committee is so excited about the opportunity to bring back the Project Show and I think everyone in Palestine will be happy too,” Project Show committee member and PRCIL Director Sara Minton said.
