A 22-year-old Palestine woman who struck three people with her Ford Explorer outside a Tyler nightclub earlier this spring has been sentenced to 10 years deferred adjudication after pleading guilty to her charges.
Brittany Michelle Barrett, 22, of Palestine pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon Wednesday in the 114th State District Court in Tyler.
Around 2:30 a.m. on May 14, Tyler police have said a fight broke out at a club in the 2100 block of North Grand Avenue. During that incident, authorities have said Barrett, who was involved in the fight, got into a 2003 Ford Explorer and ran over three people outside the club.
The three individuals were treated at a Tyler hospital for minor injuries, according to police.
Two of the injured persons subsequently told authorities they felt Barrett did not intentionally hit them.
Barrett was arrested nine days later at an Anderson County residence north of Palestine after arranging to turn herself in to Anderson County Precinct 3 Constable Kim Dickson.
Barrett will avoid a final conviction if she successfully completes terms of her probation, according to Whitney Tharpe, assistant district attorney for Smith County. The Palestine woman also will be required to make restitution in the case, according to the assistant prosecutor.
