Great-grandson receives his Eagle award
The great-grandson of Mrs. Merle Beaudet of Palestine, Nathaniel Hugh Lyon of Canton, received his Eagle Scout rank at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor on May. 31.
Lyon wore a sash with 32 merit badges as he became an Eagle Scout during a ceremony held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wills Point.
Featured speaker was Floyd Trammell, a family friend. Greg Geis and Star Scout Mason English presented the Scout Law. Kerry Cartier, Scoutmaster of Troop 469 of Wills Point, gave Lyon the Eagle Charge.
Lyon’s Scoutmaster, Bennie McBride of Troop 426 of Edgewood, presented Lyon with his Eagle Scout rank. His mother, Alicia Bradway, pinned on his Eagle Scout insignia and was in turn pinned with the Mother’s Pin by her son. Kevin Bradway presented Lyon with the Eagle Scout Certificate and received the Father’s Pin from Lyon. John Lyon of Carrolton presented Lyon with a Texas Flag from State Rep. Dan Flynn and received the Father’s Pin from his son. Lyon presented his neighbor Tim Basham with the Mentor Pin.
Others on the program included Zach Hagood, Eagle Scout from Troop 426, who served as master of ceremonies. Bishop Glenn McNeill gave the invocation. Justin Marical, Jeremiah Bradway and Benjamin Bradway presented and retired the Colors. Doug Nelson convened the Court of Honor on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America. Hays Kellogg gave the benediction.
Lyon’s grandmother Norma Wilkins of Missouri was among the attendees.
To become an Eagle Scout, Lyon had to earn 21 merit badges, including 12 required for Eagle rank and nine others. Lyon earned the 12 required plus 20 other merit badges, including crime prevention, electricity, fishing, fly fishing, horsemanship, leatherwork, music, plumbing and pottery.
His Eagle Scout project was to supervise the painting of stripes on the Richland Heights Baptist Church parking lot in Grand Saline by his fellow scouts.
Lyon is a 2009 Canton High School graduate, where he was a member of the 2007 state champion Canton High School band. He also is a member of the Lone Star High School Rodeo Association and is a May graduate of a four-year high school seminary program in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
