Veterans program

at FBC Elkhart

First Baptist Church, Elkhart will honor all veterans and their families on Veteran's Day with a special service at 7 p.m. Wednesday with a video presentation and reception.  Come early to get a seat & enjoy patriotic music. The program will begin with the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem and recognition of all veterans andd prayer.

The video presentation is inspirational and challenging to all Americans, young an old. 

“You will laugh and cry as Dr. Margaret Nikol shares her journey to America. A Bulgarian immigrant & concert violionist, Dr. Nikol knows sacrifice,” an FBC Elkhart news release said. “Don't miss her moving story of how precious freedom is, her tribute to God, family and America.  Those who fought for freedom around the world will be reminded the value of their service and we who enjoy it will not want to take it for granted after hearing her words.”

Grace Temple

Grace Temple Church of God in Christ will hold a three-night revival service Wednesday through Friday. The special guest speaker will evangelist Ann Perry of the Saint Hill Church of God in Christ Butler, where the Rev. Anthony Taylor is her pastor.

Deacon ordination

in Tennessee Colony

All area pastors, deacons and churches are invited to attend Deacon Ordination services to be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Tennessee Colony Church. Deacons Jay Karriker, Drewy Harper, Ron Frances, Wayne Whitten and Beau White will be ordained. A fellowship will follow in the community center afterwards.

The second annual Turkey Shoot is set for Nov. 21. Come on out and try your skill with a .22 rifle. Participants will be shooting for turkeys, hams, prize money and bragging rights. Two age divisions.

Tickets for the four wheeler can still be purchased at the Tennessee Colony Store. Drawing will be held Dec. 5. All proceeds will go to the building fund. Their goal is $10,000 and are almost there. They need a little extra push to get themover the hump.

Choir practice continues every Sunday evening at 5 p.m. Progress is being made on the cantata but it is not too late to join. The children continue to practice on Wednesday evenings. A supper meal is served every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. for all in attendance at no charge. Donations are always accepted.

153rd anniversary

at Antioch Church

Built in the setting of Palestine’s Old Town, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church is said to be the second oldest black church in the State of Texas and is the first black church in the City of Palestine, according to The Antioch Church.

The church history dates back to the year 1856 when many of the worship services were conducted in various homes.  Many of the members who worshipped at Antioch during those early years were the first generation of many offspring who worked in Antioch down through the years as well as today.  Visit www.theantiochchurch.org for the full rich history of this historic church.

The Antioch Church has been led by 17 men of God and is presently under the leadership of the Rev. Roy G. Duncan.

At 4 p.m. Sunday, The Antioch Church will celebrate 153 years of existence. The theme "God's Church is the Vehicle and God's Kingdom is the Goal.” The Rev. Harvey Clemmons and the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Houston will be special guest.

The Fall Revival will be held Tuesday through Thursday at 7 p.m. each night. The Rev. Leroy Armstrong of House of Hope of Dallas will be the evangelist for the week.

Small groups ministry is presently studying "The 7 Pillars of Health" at 10 a.m. each Sunday.



Holy Ground

Holy Ground Worship Center will be meeting in its newly purchased facility for the third week.  Paneling has been completed and carpet installed. 

The emphasis is week will be prayer.  The slogan will be "Church isn't fun and games, but prayer and names." 

Every member has been given a church role with the encouragement to pray for every member every day. 

The Rev. Benny Burlison is pastor. His prayer schedule is 4 to 6 a.m. daily. The anointing comes from prayer, he believes.

Holy Ground Worship Center is located on U.S. 84 East one mile from Loop 256.

The service starts at 10:30 a.m.  A nursery is provided for children  under four.

 

Cornerstone

Cornerstone Worship Center’s ladies ministry will be attending the Joyce Meyers conference in Houston today and Saturday.

Dash for Cash will be held Sunday. Kids are encouraged to bring their change.

A singing called “A Time for Thanks” singing wll be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 21. Admission is a can of food or Thanksgiving food item at the door.

Court Drive

Court Drive Church of Christ's Sunday services begin with adult class starting at 9am. Dr. Mike Wilkinson will continue the series of Healthy Spirituality with this weeks topic “Breaking the power of the past.” Morning worship begins at 10a.m. with Minister Paul Jones delivering the message “From Apathy to Generosity” (1 Corinthians 16). Child care is available during service and children's church for 3 years old through the second grade also begins after the collection for their time of worship. The Wednesday class from 7 to 8 p.m. will be lead by Danny and Jeanie Allison. They are covering a great series titled “Better Love Now.”

Youth News: High School Community Night is Saturday. The church youth will go to Fire Mountain for fun and will eat in Tyler. Bring a friend. Thursday is the Girls’ Bible Class at the church. Sharron Jones and Peggy Marchant will teach the class over “Developing Christian Character.” This class will focus on “Becoming a Young Woman of God.” The class will start with dinner at 6 p.m. and then class which will finish at 8 p.m. Fall Retreat is scheduled for Dec. 4-6. Grace UMC

selling meat

Grace United Methodist Men will be selling smoked meats for a building fund-raiser for the holidays. What a great way to prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday but to have someone else prepare the meat for your family meal. The orders will be cooked and ready for pickup on Nov. 21.  You can place your order by contacting Grace United Methodist Church at 903-723-6143.

All are invited to join in for W.O.W (Worship on Wednesday) at 6 p.m. for a covered dish dinner, fellowship, praise and worship. These evening gatherings are for anyone wishing to come together in praise and worship and Christian fellowship. The second and fourt Wednesdays are more youth friendly.

The Anderson County Community Chorus and Orchestra and Youth Chorus presents "The Glad Tidings,” a Christmas celebration at 6:30 pm Dec. 13 at the Palestine Civic Center. 

The Men's Reunion prayer group will meet at 6:30 a.m. Monday at Whataburger and again at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace UMC. 

 The Women’s Reunon prayer group will meet at non Tuesday at the church.

Westwood Baptist Church Sunday morning services begin at 8:30 and 11 a.m..; evening service begins at 6:30 p.m. Sunday school classes for all ages begin at 9:45 a.m.

The Youth Department will host a Fifth Quarter following the Westwood vs. Palestine football game Friday night. All junior high and high school students are invited for free food and fun. 

The Women of Westwood will hold their annual Heart for the Holidays Brunch at 10 a.m. Nov. 14.  Ladies are asked to bring homemade cookies to be packed in military care packages.

AWANA Clubs for children, 3 years to 6th grade meet each Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. A Tropical Thanksgiving Night will be the theme for the week.



Long Lake

Sheridan Terrace Baptist Church will honor veterans in the 10:45 a.m. Sunday worship service with prayer and appreciation. Their photographs will be displayed.

The fall festival was a great activity for children. Thanks to all who participated and donated, especially Darrell, the chairman.

Prayer breakfast

at Southside Baptist

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast at Southside Baptist Church will meet at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall. The cost is $2.75 each. Call the church office for reservations.

Women of Grace Fellowship will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the fellowship hall. A soup/chili supper will be provided by the youth of Southside.

Southside Church Family Thanksgiving Celebration will be a pot luck lunch in the fellowship hall on Nov. 22 following the morning worship services. Turkey and dressing will be provided, bring sides to go with this.



FBC Neches

In the morning worship service at First Baptist Church Neches, the Rev. Nathan McBride’s message is entitled “The Resurrection and the Life” from John 11:1-44

The Sunday evening worship services will be “A Night to Honor Israel.” The services begin at 6 p.m.

McBride has been a Holy Land tour host several times and will be presenting “Discover Israel” a video and slideshow presentation, Israel in Prophecy Bible study, Israeli-Messianic music, display of geological/archaeological items from Israel, serve Israeli/Jewish food and give information for an Israel Tour in June of 2010. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.

The Men’s Prayer Breakfast will meet at 8 a.m. Nov. 15. Men and boys are encouraged to come for prayer, fellowship and breakfast.

The study in the book of Psalms continues on Wednesday evening. The Hilltop Singers and youth meet at 7 p.m. as well.

Coffee with the pastor is held at 10 a.m. on Mondays.

Children’s church meets each Sunday at 10:45 a.m. A nursery is provided for all services.

Bible study on Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. followed by worship at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Midweek services begin at 7 p.m. At 5 p.m. on Sundays is choir practice and on Thursdays at 10 a.m. is Paint and Praise.

Broyles Chapel

Broyles Chapel Baptist Church holds Bible study classes for all ages beginning at 9:45 a.m. followed by worship at 11 a.m. A church nursery is provided for all services.

This Sunday in the 6 p.m. service is the regular monthly business meeting. The pastor’s search committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. prior to the business meeting. On Nov. 13 is the regular monthly dominoes game beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The ladies will not meet for their ladies night out this month or for the month of December.

Evangelistic Temple

series continues

Dr. Barry Roberts, church pastor of Evangelistic Temple, will continue with the series of messages “X-Trials-Taking Life to the X-Treme. Dr. Roberts will bring the message “Divine Healing” at the Saturday 6 p.m. worship service and Sunday’s 8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. worship services. The text is from James 5:13-20.

Each Saturday at 6 p.m. Junior High Surge meet with Riley Higgins, Junior High Youth pastor, in the youth building. On Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Senior High Youth small groups meet with Jason Harris, youth pastor. All youth meet each Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the youth building.

Radiant Ladies, a women’s Bible study group, meet each Thursday at 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall. The present study is “Living Beyond Yourself” by Beth Moore.

The Inside-Out Ministry and Outreach Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 14 at the church. You can find various ministries and community outreaches that need someone just like you! At noon the church’s Junior High Youth Department is having its chili cook off.

Harvest Day

at Old Bethel

Old Bethel Baptist Church located in Tennessee Colony welcomes all to its Harvest Day program this Sunday. In the 11 a.m. worship service the guest speaker will be the Rev. B.T. Barrett of Houston. In the 3 p.m. service the guest speaker will be the Rev. Arthur Faulk, pastor of Greater Wilgo Baptist Church of Corsicana.

Fall Bazaar at

Bethlehem Lutheran

This Saturday, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, will hold its annual Bazaar at the church, located at 1515 S. Loop 256, across from Palestine High School. The Bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ladies will be selling craft items and baked goods. A lunch, including sandwiches, soups, desserts and beverages will also be available. Funds raised will be used in various mission projects sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ through the ministry of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, the church body of which Bethlehem congregation is a part.

The people of Bethlehem gather on Sunday for fellowship, study and worship, beginning with Sunday school and adult Bible class at 9 a.m. In the 10:15 a.m. service, the Rev. David R. Bergman’s sermon will be “The Greater Gift,” based on Mark 12. Following the service the LWML women’s group will hold its monthly meeting.

On Tuesday at 7 p.m. the church council will meet.

Wednesday midweek activities at Bethlehem include junior confirmation instruction for grades six and seven at 4 p.m. Choir practice is at 5:15 p.m. followed by a potluck fellowship meal at 6 p.m. Bible Bunch classes for children meet at 7 p.m. as well as an adult class that is nearing the conclusion of their study that has been reading through the book of Genesis.



Mount Vernon

Church school at Mount Vernon African Methodist Episcopal Church will open at 9:45 a.m. for a discussion of the lesson, “Chosen to Proclaim,” as it is written in 1st Peter 2:1-17. Members are urged to be present for the reorganization of the church school at Mt. Vernon, located at 913 Calhoun St.

The youth will lead the second Sunday services with readings and with songs. The Rev. Hamilton assisted by the Licentiate, Bobby Carwell, will officiate during the divine praise services.

The midweek activity schedule includes prayer service, Bible study, pastoral teaching and lesson review from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The 136th church anniversary will be celebrated with a 3 p.m. public program on Nov. 22.

at Pilgrim Hill

Pilgrim Hill Baptist Church Building Fund for Lyfe Fish Dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the church. The dinner consists of fried fish, potato salad and bread. Drinks also re available. Dine-in or take-out is available. The cost is $6.50 per plate and proceeds go toward Building for Lyfe.

Chordsmith Quartet performed last Sunday at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church.

This week the Sunday school classes of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are invited to hear a presentation by John Dee German, one of the scientists who was part of a team that examined the Shroud of Turin. This will be at 9:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

The canned food drive for the food pantry at Sacred Heart Catholic Church will focus on “something red.” The collection basket is by the outside entry door to the Education building.

The FCC board meets at 6 p.m. Monday. This is an open meeting.

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) celebrates the Lord 's Supper by serving communion in worship service beginning at 10:40 a.m. each week.

Join in Sunday at First United Methodist Church with its contemporary service at 9 a.m., Sunday school following at 10 a.m. and the regular service at 11 a.m. The pastor, the Rev. Bruce Hay will be bringing the message, “If The Lord Wills” taken from James 4: 13-17. The nursery is available for children 3 and under. Church for kids is offered during worship for children ages 3-6.

The music ministry at FUMC is hosting a food drive to benefit families of the community. Everyone is asked to bring non perishable foods.

Youth Group (grades 7-12) will be meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Also, the Glory Bells (handbell) will rehearse at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by the Chancel Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. Kid's Praise Choir will be meeting every Wednesday at 6 p.m. to get ready for the Christmas program. Any child interested in being in the program needs to attend Kid's Praise Choir.

Ironmen meet on Thursdays at 6 p.m. or Fridays at 6:15 a.m. Men's Bible Study group meets Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. for breakfast and a morning bible study. Come join the men in one or all of their Bible Studies.

First Baptist Church of Palestine has Bible study groups for all ages beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays with the worship gathering following at 10:45 a.m. The Rev. Jay Abernathy continues a November sermon series “We're Alive” with a sermon titled “Hero” from Hebrews 9:24-28.

Sunday afternoon begins at 4 p.m. with the Ladies Bible Study; Mom-to-Mom Bible study at 4:30 p.m.; Christmas Musical Rehearsal at 4:45 p.m.; and the Evening Gathering, Bible Drill and Bible Buddies at 6 p.m.

Churchwide prayer time starts at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by Adult Bible Study groups at 6 p.m. Youth Pastor Scott Dishman, invites youth in grades 7-12 to Cultivate which meets each Wednesday at 6:30 pm.

First Baptist Church of Palestine has a growing worship choir. Rehearsal begins at 6:45 p.m.

A new college age Bible study group started meeting, using the book “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan. The group meets at 7 p.m. on Thursdays in the Youth Room.
