AARP course
offered
A one day AARP driver safety program will be held from 1-5 p.m. Aug. 11 at the First Christian Church, located at 113 Crawford St. The refresher course is designed for drivers 50 years of age and older, but is open to anyone. The cost of the course is $12 for AARP members and $14 for non-members. Attendees may qualify for reductions in automobile insurance premiums for three years upon successful completion of the course. Celebrate Recovery at New Life Community Church is held each Friday from 6-9 p.m. Celebrate Recovery addresses all your hurts, habits and hang-ups, not just alcohol and chemical addictions. at Broyles Chapel
Broyles Chapel Baptist Church meets at 9:45 a.m. each Sunday for Bible study classes for all ages followed by worship at 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Adult choir practice will not meet for the next two Sundays.
The prayer drive teams are still meeting on Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. The visitation training sessions have concluded. If you want to be on a prayer drive team see the Rev. Willie Reagan or Linda Dale. They can tell you where you are needed.

to joint service
This Sunday evening, July 26, Long Lake Baptist Church will be going to Antioch Church near Fairfield for a joint service. The Rev. Mike Mayfield is the church pastor and members have invited Long Lake to worship with them. Services begin at 6 p.m.
Carl and Barbara Dorsey have set a tentative date, Aug. 15, for a “Cowboy Back to School Rally.” This will be a rally for all ages.
The church members will be collecting school supplies for the children.

Sheridan Terrace Baptist Church will host the Houston-Anderson County Baptist Association quarterly fellowship beginning at 6 p.m. this Saturday. Churches associated with the Baptist Missionary Association of Texas and the BMA of America will participate with a meal, music and activities.

Bergman’s sermon during the 10:15 a.m. service will be “Willing and Able,” based on Ephesians 3. Following the service, the congregation will hold its quarterly Voter’s meeting.

Hunter safety course
at Tennessee Colony
Wanna be hunters need to mark their calendar for the upcoming Hunter Safety Education course being offered at Tennessee Colony church on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. If you were born after Sept.1, 1971 you must have the safety course to obtain a hunting license. Cornerstone
sets car wash
The Cornerstone Worship Center youth will hold a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Dairy Queen. Proceeds will go to the August youth rally that will be held at the Palestine Civic Center.
The Men’s Meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday at the church. A cake auction benefiting the youth will be held after the service.
Monday night is scrapbooking at 6:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Thesingles ministry SWAT will meet Tuesday night in the fellowship hall. A supper will be provided as they get to know the singles in the church and community. Sunday mornings begin at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 7 p.m. A nursery provided both services. There are children’s programs as well.

Grace Bible Church’s Sunday services begin at 11 a.m. and are held at 1020 W. Hamlett St. (old Washington school). The informal service includes contemporary music and practical, expository teaching by Dr. Dan Gold. A nursery is provided for infants and toddlers through 4 years of age. The church fellowship lunch will not be held during July. The lunch schedule will resume on Aug. 2.
Children’s Summer Sunday School and the Adult Apologetics class will not meet during the month of July. Both will resume Aug. 2.
The youth guys continue to meet on Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. Robert Moore, Minister to Youth, leads this Bible study.

Trades Days set
The Annual Trades Days, Inside Garage Sale and Hamburger Lunch will be held July 31 and Aug. 1 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Elkhart First United Methodist Church, across from Elkhart School.
Vendors from across Texas will be setting up and selling their goods including: arts and crafts; assorted western woodwork, flat bottom boat/trolling motor, dolls, pillows, new and used clothing, antique furnture, outdoor furniture, sporting equipment, exercise equipment and “what nots.”

There are a few vendor spaces still available priced from $15 to $25. If you need a space with electricity there are only three left to rent.
In addition to the Trades Days, the church will be having a huge garage sale inside.

Men’s Day will start at 9:45 a.m. Sunday at Mount Vernon AME Church with church school classes exploring the Israelites Year of Jubilee recorded in Leviticus 25:8-21, 23-24.
Following the 11 a.m. service, the Rev. Theresa Hamilton will officiate during the praise celebration assisted by Licentiate, Bobby Carwell.
Special guests for the 3 p.m. Men’s Day program will be St. Luke Church family of Garland. Speaker will be their pastor, the Rev. Cecil Yeoman.
Bishop to visit
St. Philip’s
At 10 a.m. Sunday, the Rt. Rev. Rayford High, Bishop Suffragan of The Diocese of Texas, will present at St. Philip’s to officiate at the service of Confirmation and Holy Communion. The Episocopal Church Women will host a reception in the Parish Hall immediately following the Confirmation service to welcome Bishop High and to honor the new confirmands. For this week only, there will be no 7:30 a.m. service.
This Sunday is the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost with John 6: 1-21 as the appointed Gospel. A midweek evening prayer worship service is celebrated on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
