I am writing in response to a letter by Maranatha Evans that went into detail about how disappointed she was at the election outcome.
This is the most historical election of our lifetime. I am a 52-year-old white women from the South and have never worked harder on anything in my life than I did on his campaign. I have never been so proud of anything than when I saw Barak Obama give his speech.
I love my country. My oldest son served his country for 10 years and even though we were not at war then, I worried about him every day.
For the past eight years we have had a president who supported a war that has turned out to be one of the biggest lies a president ever told Americans. There were no WMDs that would have supported our invading Iraq. Iraq was not the country Osama Bin Ladin was from; he was from Afghanistan.
What about the thousands of Iraqi’s murdered in this war? Nobody knows the exact number of Iraqis killed. These people have paid a heavy price and their country will never be the same. We have lost more than 4,300 of our service men and women and that doesn’t count the more than 125,000 who have been left with no arms or legs.
Not one time during the two-year campaign did Obama ever mention he supported welfare. Have you been watching the stock market? Have you heard the unemployment rate is the highest since the 1980s? Do you realize we are headed for a depression?
About those taxes you said the new president was going to raise. You have to make $250,000 before your taxes will go up. In fact, low- to middle-class people’s taxes will go down under the new president’s plan. Under Bush’s tax plan the richest people got the tax breaks.
On the topic of “terrorists.” This is a story Sarah Palin started on the campaign trail. The person you are referring to is William Ayers and what you are talking about happened 40 years ago. Obama and Ayers were never “pals.” They attended a fund raiser together. Ayers is now a college professor in Chicago.
Do you really think someone is going to break your door down and take all your guns away? Take your Bible away?
Our economy is in the tank and Obama did not do it to our country. Do you really think God will not bless our country because we have a new president or because of the color of his skin? He is a Christian and so is his wife and children.
I want change from the politics we have had for the last eight years. I always thought a person should be given a chance to prove themselves. I voted for a man I feel confident will lead this country in the right direction and will do his best to bring our troops home and maybe restore our name throughout the world.
Give Obama a chance.
