Ethan McCauley, 5, and Madison McCauley of Colleyville take a photograph with Santa Claus Friday morning during Santa’s Magic Workshop in downtown Palestine. The two were in town visiting their grandmother for Thanksgiving. Santa’s Magic Workshop will be open on Dec. 5, 12 and 19, all Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It also will be open on Sunday Dec. 13, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to coincide with the matinee performance of Bah Humbug at the Texas Theatre. Viewing the workshop and visiting with Santa is free, but if you would like to purchase a photographs they are $5 each.

Professional development promotes academic success
The words “In-Service Training” once sent shivers up my spine. Long ago, as a classroom teacher enduring hours of state mandated workshops delivered by monotone presenters and, later, as a principal attempting to schedule useful and at least somewhat less torturous training for my teachers, I always dreaded the notorious beginning of school “sit and get” week. What a difference there is in the professional development of recent years!
