Elkhart Elks football fans and drill team members show their support as the Big Red Band plays the school song prior to kickoff Friday night against Huntington. Elkhart defeated Huntington, 14-12, to open the 2008 season with two straight wins. Local high school games this weekend include Palestine at Van, Madisonville at Westwood, Elkhart at Buffalo, Dawson at Cayuga, Quitman at Frankston, Grapeland at Lovelady, Gatesville at Fairfield and Covington at Oakwood.

Colorful Hummingbird
A hummingbird sits in a still position on a tree branch last week in Palestine at the home of Jimmy Pryor. Pryor used a Canon Rebel XTi with a 75-300 mm lens to capture the shot. His next attempt will be at getting in-flight shots of the birds.
