ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
New Adventures — Wild new adventures begin in Elkhart on Monday. The teachers began their in-service week on on Aug. 15 where they were encouraged to take a walk on the wild side:
• Willing to do whatever it takes to succeed
• Innovative in their teaching strategies
• Loving in their care of children and staff
• Dedicated to being the BEST at their profession.
In addition to the fact that the school will be traveling to the wild side, they will be traveling with a new tour guide. Denise Ray is now the head principal at the school. Mrs. Ray taught third and fourth grade at the elementary from 1991-2000. She was then afforded the opportunity to sign on as the assistant principal. She did an outstanding job for 7 years. Her diligence and hard work did not go without notice. When the door was opened for a new head principal, she was offered and accepted the position. Mrs. Ray's wild and innovative leadership will only serve to propel Elkhart elementary into a new dimension.
Elkhart ISD always encourages its students to excel. This is proven by the fact that they allowed one of their own to become the new assistant principal: Tana Herring. Herring was raised in Elkhart and educated in Elkhart ISD. She has taught here for 17 years. She and her husband Greg, a middle school science teacher, are well aware of the excellence of the district.
Elkhart Elementary's enrollment to date is 708 and there are new enrollees everyday. The kids were “roaring” to get inside the building on Monday. Teachers and staff were anxiously waiting as well. The hustle and bustle of the morning was invigorating as the new preschoolers explored, cried, and somehow survived the day. Friends greeted friends; friends shared summer adventures and friends made new friends.
